Bread and Butter Pickles
4 qt cucumbers, sliced thin
2 cups onions, sliced thin
½ cup salt
4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon celery seed
2 tablespoons mustard seed
4 cups cider vinegar
Mix cucumbers, onion and salt together. Let stand 3 hours.
Mix sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar together; bring to a boil.
Drain cucumbers and onion mixture. Add to the vinegar mixture, heat thoroughly DO NOT BOIL. Pour into jars and seal.
